Research assistants (RA) in TARDIS gain hands-on experience that will not only be instrumental in applying to graduate programs, but provide RA with the necessary skills for careers in academia, research, or therapeutic settings.

The T in TARDIS, literally stands for Team, because working in TARDIS does indeed require an active team effort. Everyone plays an active role and is taught to contribute to all aspects of the research process. At TARDIS, you will be involved in:

  • Preparing Institutional Review Boards (IRB) applications
  • Combing the Literature
  • Preparing Literature Reviews
  • Data Coding & Cleaning
  • Data Analysis
  • Interviewing Participants
  • Transcribing Open-Ended Data
  • SPSS Data Entry
  • Preparing & Submitting Conference Presentations
  • Assisting and Leading Preparation of Peer-Reviewed Articles

Requirements

As members of the TARDIS research team are given significant levels of responsibility, volunteer research assistants must meet the following requirements for acceptance:

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Commit to a minimum of two semesters.
  • Work in lab 8 hours a week.

If you are interested in identity development, acculturation and cultural processes among ethnic/racial minority youth, and substance use and risk behaviors, then TARDIS may be the perfect home for you! To join:

  1. You must complete the online application form . There you will be asked to provide your major, GPA, availability, and questions to get to know you better.
  2. Once we have received your application, you will be contacted by Dr. Meca within two weeks to schedule a sit-down interview.
