Health Honors Society
The Health Honors Society (HHS) is a student group designed to engage and support high performing students in conducting and disseminating scientific research; planning, implementing and evaluating health programs and resources; promoting professional standards and ethics; networking among health educators and related professionals; and advocating for health equity. The Society recognizes academic achievement and provides hands-on experiences for members to meet the standards, ideals, competencies and ethics of professionally prepared individuals in Health Education and Promotion. Students majoring in Public Health and related fields can become affiliate members, allowing them to engage in all local activities. Students majoring in Community Health or being CHES eligible* can become full members and be recognized by the National Honorary and gain the associated benefits of national membership.
*CHES eligibility requires 25 credit hours in competency related coursework in health. The HHS advisors can review your transcript to see if you are eligible.
Womxn In Medicine
Womxn In Medicine (WIM) is a registered student organization at UTSA that represents pre-health profession seeking students including nursing, medicine, dentistry, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistants, and more. WIM’s mission is to bring light to inequities among diverse populations, particularly those within the healthcare setting, in order to better serve our community and become culturally competent professionals. WIM is dedicated to the equitable treatment of underrepresented and stigmatized populations, including but not limited to people of color and those identifying as LGBTQIA+. WIM seeks out individuals, professionals, and organizations to share their personal experiences identifying as and/or working with diverse populations in healthcare. Students of all genders, majors, and career aspirations are encouraged to join. WIM offers active members networking opportunities with practicing health professionals and other health profession students, as well as experiential learning through book clubs, cadaver labs, study socials, and stoles/cords.

Global Brigades
Global Brigades is an international non-profit organization that uniquely implements a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals, with the mission of empowering developing communities through sustainability.
Public Health Chapter
UTSA’s Global Brigades Public Health Chapter is a volunteer-led organization where students are empowered to identify health-related issues and implement public health initiatives. We travel to countries such as Nicaragua, Panama, and Ghana on an 8-day long brigade each year to provide aid and essential resources that help to improve the public health education, infrastructure, and overall public health in communities globally. Through an evidence-based model, we work alongside local community members to implement projects that tangibly improve lives. Students seeking local community service opportunities with an interest in helping the community are highly encouraged to join. Whether you are a public health major or not, your desire to help others is welcomed in our organization and can be utilized in a hands-on learning experience.

Medical/Dental Chapter
UTSA’s Global Brigades Medical/Dental Chapter is an organization consisting of students and medical professionals working alongside local communities and staff to implement sustainable health systems. Through volunteer partnerships with local organizations and a 7-9 day service learning experience abroad, Medical/Dental Brigade members have the opportunity to make a long lasting impact in several communities. Members also have the opportunity to network with various practicing health professionals, students, and organizations. Students interested in medicine, public health, and of all majors/interests are strongly encouraged to join.
