Welcome, and thank you for your interest in our department. We offer diverse options for both undergraduate and graduate students interested in preventing disease and improving the health of individuals and their communities.

Department faculty have developed a vigorous research agenda focusing on prevention and treatment of risks for diseases and promotion of healthy growth and living across lifespan. Many of the research programs have been supported by external funding agencies, such as the National Institutes of Health, the US Department of Defense, the US Department of Education, the International Life Science Institute Research Foundation, the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. Close research collaborations have been formed with the UT Health San Antonio, San Antonio Metropolitan Health District, local school districts and community groups.

The department is committed to serving our students and community and to addressing many of the public health challenges facing South Texas and beyond. Please feel free to contact me and I will be happy to discuss the exciting initiatives we have planned.
