FAQ FOR INTERESTED STUDENTS

What kind of student would be a strong fit for the lab?

​​The most successful students in our lab tend to share the following characteristics:

  • Aligned Research Interests: Students with interests that meaningfully complement the lab's ongoing work in trauma, anxiety, and stress-related disorders.
  • Collaborative Mindset: Students who thrive in a team-based environment and are eager to contribute to shared research efforts.
  • Initiative for Independent Projects: Students who are motivated to pursue their own research ideas that align with the lab’s overarching mission or can contribute to ongoing projects in a meaningful way.
  • Research-Driven Career Goals: Students who are primarily pursuing clinical research-oriented careers working with clinical populations (e.g., academic or research-intensive clinical careers). While all students are welcome, a strong commitment to research and publication is expected during your time in the program.​

​What kind of work would I be doing in your lab?​

  • Clinical or community-driven research projects
  • Administration of evidence-based interviews and self report measures
  • Database development and management
  • Statistical analysis
  • Attend regular meetings
  • Writing and co-authoring manuscripts and clinical materials (e.g., intervention manual)

Do I need prior experience with PTSD or anxiety research?

Prior experience with PTSD, anxiety, or related clinical populations is not required. However, an interest and foundational understanding of psychological research principles and methodology is expected, as this will provide the basis for your development as a clinical scientist in this lab.

Can I contact you or your students if I have questions about the lab or one of the psychology graduate programs at UTSA?

Absolutely! Prospective students are welcome to reach out to me or lab members with specific questions. I will do my best to response in a timely manner, but I may not be able to accommodate individual meetings due to volume.
