Center for Community Based and Applied Health Research Student Research Fellows Program

 The Center for Community Based and Applied Health Research (CCBAHR) is offering a unique opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students from the College for Health, Community and Policy to receive advanced training and real-world experience in community-engaged health research. Up to two paid positions are available for the six-month CCBAHR Student Research Fellowship. The Followship includes a 15-week curriculum and part-time employment to work on a health career workforce development project.

Eligibility:

  • Currently enrolled advanced standing undergraduate student (at least 60 credit hours) or currently enrolled graduate student
  • Interested in research focused on pathways to health careers
  • Completed a basic university-level research methods course
  • Is available to work 10 hours per week between March 1st 2025 and August 15th 2025 to complete the fellowship

The CCBAHR fellowship will include skills training and a mentored project and workforce development in health careers.

Fellows will be trained by the CCBAHR Faculty Mentoring Team on:

  • Human subjects' protection training
  • Each fellow will work collaboratively with the CCBAHR faculty mentoring team on the following training modules:
    1. Principles and practices in community engaged research
    2. Principles of project management
    3. Qualitative data collection and analysis
    4. Survey research methods
    5. Data analysis methods
    6. Introduction to Quality and Process Improvement for Public Health

Mentored Project

Fellows will work with the CCBAHR faculty mentoring team and the Center for Health Equity in San Antonio, to develop and assess best practices for training students to pursue health careers therefore increasing local capacity for health services.

Fellows should expect to work 8-10 hours per week. Payment will reflect standard graduate or undergraduate hourly pay scale.
