Position Overview

The HCAP Community Connectors Program at the University of Texas at San Antonio is seeking to fill two Lab Assistant positions to start working in mid to late June 2026 through the end of August 2026.

The work will take place at the UT San Antonio Main Campus and Corazon Ministries, with some hours worked remotely from home.

Key Responsibilities

Main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating data collection activities  
  • Collecting data from community members
  • Managing datasets 
  • Assisting to conduct statistical and qualitative data analysis 
  • Assisting to create reports
  • Modifying instruments to make them culturally appropriate for the community

Qualifications (Requirements)

  • Ability to work well as part of a team
  • Ability to work during the school day (7AM - 4PM)
  • Ability to travel to the Corazon Ministries and related sites (in downtown San Antonio)
  • Professional communication skills
  • Student in the College for Health, Community and Policy

Structure and Compensation

  • The Lab Assistant will work 15-19 hours per week.

Position Overview

A Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) is sought for the summer of 2026 to support interdisciplinary research on the intersection of health, aging, and disability, led by Dr. Emily J. Nicklett, Associate Professor of Social Work. This role is ideal for a graduate student interested in gaining hands-on research experience in these areas using multiple approaches/methodologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in qualitative data collection, coding, transcription, and analysis on topics
    including falls prevention and chronic disease self-management for populations with
    disabilities (no prior experience required)
  • Participate in the management, analysis, and presentation of quantitative data on such
    topics as falls prevention and chronic disease self-management (no prior experience
    required)
  • Support literature review, synthesis, and gap analysis for these and other topical areas
Qualifications (Requirements)
  • Enrollment in an HCAP graduate program (minimum 1 credit hour for master’s students)
  • Enthusiasm for research and desire to learn
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to learn new tools
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • Prior completion of CITI training
  • Spanish language fluency is an asset, but not required for this position
Structure and Compensation
  • Hourly position, between 10-19 hours per week for the summer term (5/31/26 – 8/31/26); exact hours to be confirmed. Most work can be performed remotely
  • $15.18 per hour

The Graduate Administrative Assistant (GAA) will provide administrative and organizational support for the interdisciplinary Community and Policy (CAP) PhD Program and the Program Director, Dr. Emily J. Nicklett, as the program prepares to launch in the fall. This role is ideal for a graduate student seeking experience in academic program coordination, interdisciplinary research, and operations within a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Program Director with program-related reports, meeting coordination, and communication
  • Support development and maintenance of program materials (e.g., syllabi, handbooks)
  • Manage program-related correspondence and maintain accurate records
  • Coordinate logistics for events (e.g., information sessions, orientation)
  • Coordinate logistics and maintain confidential program data
  • Provide general administrative support, including document preparation and data entry
Qualifications (Requirements)
  • Enrollment in an HCAP graduate program (e.g., Social Work, Public Health, Sociology and Demography, Public Administration, Criminology & Criminal Justice) for the summer term (minimum, 1 credit hour for master’s students)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft ORice Suite and willingness to learn new tools

  • Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) and scheduling platforms

Graduate Research Assistantship (19 hours/week) in Department of Public Health 

The UT San Antonio Mobile Health Lab is searching for a qualified graduate student to assist with developing, implementing, and evaluating community-based health promotion programs in school, health clinics, and community settings that service underprivileged and underserved populations in South Texas. 

Position description
  • Assisting with developing and implementing community-based research studies for the prevention and management of chronic diseases and promotion of physical activity and healthy eating in under-privileged and under-served population groups 
  • Contributing to the development of digital technology-based health promotion program
  • Assisting with developing grant applications to the National Institutes of Health and other funding agencies
  • Participating in collecting, processing, and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data from research studies
Required qualifications
  • Current enrollment at UT San Antonio
  • Undergraduate training in health, kinesiology, nutrition, psychology, or sociology
  • Current GPA B or better
  • Reliable transportation
Preferred qualifications
  • Students who have just started their graduate studies at UT San Antonio 
  • Experience in digital technology applications
  • Experience in community-based health promotion
  • English-Spanish bilingual competence
  • Strong writing skills
Staring date
  • The position is open for Fall 2025; a later starting date is possible.
  • The position is renewable based on job performance, up to 2 years.

  • Stipend ($15,000/year)
