Academic advising is an essential part of every student’s college experience. Advisors engage students in their planning, teach them how to navigate relevant academic resources, and encourage them to take responsibility for decisions about their academic progress.

The UTSA Advising website provides information about who your advisor is, making advising appointments, information about special programs such as the Health Professions Office, Transfer and Transition information, and a variety of other resource and support services available to students.

Academic advisors are assigned based on your academic major. If you do not know your academic advisor, you can find this by logging into your myUTSA Account. Your Advisor Contact Information is listed under the "My Advisors" card of the modern view. If no assigned advisor is listed in your myUTSA Account, students should call 210.458.4900.

To schedule an advising appointment, students may call 210.458.4900.

To make/attend in-person appointments, students may visit the University Student Success Center (SSC) on Main Campus (located between the McKinney Humanities (MH) and North Paseo (NPB) buildings) OR the Buena Vista Building 1.304).

Preparation

To prepare for an advising appointment, students should review their DegreeWorks plans and major requirements in the Undergraduate Catalog for the year in which they started at UTSA. Write down any questions you may have for your advisor regarding degree program tracks, career options, and professional interests. Remember that you are the one who ultimately makes the academic decisions during your college experience. However, your academic advisor is a resource and a partner so they will want to get information from you and use that to best help you achieve your goals.

You can find your advisor by going to the UTSA Advising website and finding your major. Since HCAP majors are integrated throughout the disciplinary areas, you can find HCAP majors under the following headers:

Life and Health Sciences

  • Kinesiology
  • Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Public Health

Public Service and Policy Studies

  • Criminology and Criminal Justice
  • Public Administration
  • Social Work

Social Sciences

  • Psychology
  • Sociology

Exploratory students who have not yet declared a major will find the link for those advisors under Exploratory Programs.

Feel free to email your advisor from your UTSA email address for quick one-off questions.
