The UTSA Bridge Program is a 4-week summer program designed to recruit and prepare first-generation undergraduate students for successful completion of bachelor’s degrees and pursuit of research careers. It is designed to strengthen research and educational skills early in undergraduates’ course of study. Students will learn the fundamentals of the research process, participate in trainings, seminars, and workshops that provide guidance on career and academic pathways, and develop skills in quantitative analysis.

The application deadline is February 21, 2025.
Initial review of applications will begin January 20 and will continue until all positions are filled.

Eligibility and Program Facts

  • The program is open to undergraduate students who are currently enrolled at UTSA or in the process of transferring to UTSA.
  • Priority will be given to first-generation students and students who have completed fewer than two years of college
  • We will also prioritize students who are interested in pursuing a career that involves public health and data analytics
  • Program Dates: June 9 – July 3. Program dates are not flexible. You must be able to participate full-time for the duration of the program.
  • Students will participate daily (Mon-Fri) in a combination of structured (faculty-led workshops, training, seminars) and unstructured activities (completing assignments, readings, lab time).
  • The program is in-residence. Students will be provided with accommodations and meals.
  • Students will be awarded a $3,000 scholarship (contingent on full-time participation).

  • Essay: Please write at least 200 words and no more than 600 words describing your research experience (if any), your career goals, any unique qualities and characteristics that you would bring to the program, and how participating in this program would help you meet these goals.
