The Department of Social Work's Mission is to serve as a catalyst for transformational, culturally competent Social Work through research, education, and service within a local-global context. Our field education practicums represent an opportunity to put that mission into action.
On this page, you will find information for both students and agencies who are interested in serving as a practicum site.
Field Education Practicum Site Requirements
- Initial inquiry from agency, completed Facility Information Sheet, and Field Instructor Profile
- Contact from Field Office Representative
- Master of Social Work (MSW) level professional
- MSW for 2+ years
- Employed by the agency for at least one year
- Attends mandatory Field Instructor Training
- Meets with student weekly for one hour of supervision
- Facilitate Educational Agreement and Final Evaluation
- Educational Experience and Program Affiliation Agreements from the University of Texas System
- Make a work space available for the MSW student
Field Education Structure
- There are two field assignments: Generalist & Specialized
- Student will be assigned for two consecutive semesters for each field
assignment - Student must obtain a minimum of 450 clock hours, 225 per semester
- Student must work a minimum of 15 hours per week (20 in the summer)
- Student will have at least two classes to attend during their field
semesters:- Integrative Seminar
- Social Work Methods Course
