Students studying Psychology may consider becoming involved in a student organization. These associations provide valuable networking opportunities, career skills, and more.
The Student Psychology Association (SPA) at UTSA is dedicated to offering UTSA students an opportunity to learn more about the field of psychology through a variety of events and activities such as guest speakers, tours of mental health facilities, and public forums. The SPA also participates in campus and social events, all of which can help one meet new people who share similar interests.
We are currently accepting new members. To be an active member, we do have requirements that need to be met (listed below).
To keep up with important information regarding membership and the organization you should follow us on all social media platforms especially Instagram (@studentpsychutsa) and RowdyLink. We also have a YouTube channel where we post recordings of all meetings. Our handle is “Student Psychology Association”
Groupme is also a messaging chat platform we use to keep our members updated and informed in regards to the organization. We do have rules for the group chat which are to be respectful, no ads, and nothing that is NOT related to the organization. The group chat is STRICTLY for the organization, we do however have a social chat where we can talk about anything else, we also have a separate group chat where you can ask about professors and courses within psychology.

Active Minds at UTSA is here to empower college students to speak openly about mental health in order to educate others and break stigmas related to mental health. Active Minds is a student initiative that supports emotional wellness by: increasing awareness about mental health, planning events on campus, promoting access to campus helping services, and communicating with your peers. You don’t have to be any particular type of major to discuss mental health, you just have to be a human who wants change! Become a Stigma Fighter today!
Based on the philosophy that no one should suffer in silence, the primary goal of Active Minds is to stimulate discussion about mental health and the signs and symptoms of mental illness. You don’t have to be diagnosed with a mental illness to start taking care of your mental health and encourage others to do the same. Please note that Active Minds is NOT a peer support group and does not provide counseling or any other form of mental health services.
All events are held via Zoom at 7:30PM (No camera or voice required).
Join our Groupme for more information on how to become a stigma fighter today!

SWPA, the Southwestern Psychological Association, is the official APA affiliate for the Southwestern region of the United States.
SWPA works to promote and strengthen psychology’s scientific, professional and educational facets. At its annual meeting, SWPA offers paper, poster, continuing education sessions, workshops, symposia, and invited talks. SWPA prides itself on serving the psychological community by providing access to scientific advances and professional development within a collegial atmosphere. Students are welcomed and treated as active and valued participants in the discipline.
SWPA strives to maintain diversity in its membership, its leadership and its program. A mark of the program’s diversity is the number of special interest groups that choose to meet with SWPA. These organizations include the Psi Chi, the Society for Applied Multivariate Research (SAMR), the Southwestern Comparative and Behavioral Neuroscience Association (SCBNA), and the Southwest Teaching of Psychology Organization (SWToP). Members of TOPPS, Teaching Psychology in Schools, and PT@CC, Psychology Teaching at Community Colleges, also meet with SWPA.
