Arianna Morales-Garza is graduating with a bachelor's in sociology and a minor in health, aging and society. She is planning to return to UTSA in the fall to pursue a master's degree.
What made you decide to attend UTSA?
My dad graduated from UTSA, so I wanted to follow in his footsteps.
What made you choose your major?
Sociology focuses on the bigger picture. I’m able to examine communities through various lenses to understand and possibly create large-scale solutions or explanations for the “why” questions we have. It’s easy to be reactive to the symptoms of a problem, but I feel sociology has taught me to be proactive to the causes and how to positively impact a community as a whole.
What has been your favorite moment/experience at UTSA?
Cofounding UTSA’s 1st Non-Traditional Students Organization that helps to provide a sense of belonging to returning students and those with life experience that set them apart from traditional students.
What accomplishment are you most proud of from your time in college?
I became a UTSA IES Pathways Fellow, which taught me “how to read research, write research, do research, and talk research."
If you could give advice to incoming students, what would it be?
This journey is your own and nonlinear so enjoy it, explore and get involved as much as possible to find your people and what you like, but most importantly give yourself a break!
What are your post-graduation plans, if any?
I plan on returning to UTSA in the fall to work on my Masters!

What surprised you the most about college life?
The amount of traveling I’d get to do.

Community, Resourceful, Discovery
What’s one piece of advice that you received during college that you’ll carry with you?
Don’t give up on your passions!
