July 23, 2021 — Lisa Johns has been named the Director of the Center for Student Success for the College for Health, Community and Policy.
Johns has spent roughly 23 years at UTSA in various roles, working her way up from academic advisor to director for academic success coaching in the Tomás Rivera Center. Most recently, she served as associate director for academic coaching and mentoring. In this time, she established UTSA's first peer education program (called UTSA FACES), helped to evolve academic success coaching, and has contributed to the institutionalization of first generation and transfer student programs.
With a career entirely dedicated to student success, HCaP could not have found a better director for its student success center. "This position is a culmination of everything I've done," Johns said. "It's an opportunity to start from the ground up and focus on student needs."
The HCaP Center for Student Success, located in MS 2.02.36, will focus on both college preparation and career readiness. “It will be a home base for both students and faculty to connect and work together toward the goal of student success,” said Johns.
Johns is already working on programming, summer orientations and planning student engagement activities for the first weeks of classes.
The Center is currently under construction and will be ready to welcome students on September 1. In the meantime, keep an eye on our social media channels for behind the scenes sneak peeks of construction and programming plans!
