Associate Professor Emily Nicklett, Ph.D., M.S., MSW, has been awarded the Weiler Award for Leadership in Aging and Public Health from the
American Public Health Association
. The award is presented to an outstanding person or organization who has made significant contributions to the field through policy, research, education, or service and has contributed to the Section through leadership activities or funding and policy initiatives.
"Being selected for the Philip G. Weiler Award for Leadership in Aging and Public Health is a tremendous honor, named after one of the strongest advocates for aging and public health," Nicklett said.
The Aging and Public Health Section of APHA is a group of dedicated public health professionals and scholars who are committed to advancing research, advocacy, and practice for older adults and their caregivers.
Since joining the Aging and Public Health Section in 2012, Nicklett has served as Co-Chair of the Membership Committee, Governing Councilor, Co-Chair of the Communications Committee, and Co-Chair of the COVID-19 Workgroup for the Aging & Public Health Section.
In her role for the COVID-19 workgroup, Nicklett and co-chair Junling Wang helped bring together a strong and enthusiastic group of 13 section members to advance research, advocacy, and service regarding the impact of COVID-19 on older adults and their caregivers.
"Some prior recipients of the Weiler award have been tremendous mentors to me throughout my career, and it is especially meaningful to receive this recognition," Nicklett said.
