Public Administration students with City Manager Michael Hornes at TCMA meeting held at UTSA’s Downtown Campus
(Oct. 1, 2019) — Texas City Management Association (TCMA) Region 8 held their monthly meeting at UTSA’s Downtown Campus on Friday, Sept. 27, and invited Public Administration students to attend and network with Region 8 City Managers to learn more about the council-manager form of government. Region 8 covers the south-central Texas area. TCMA has six committees dedicated to promoting professional standards and exchange of information: Budget and Planning, Advocacy, City Manager of Tomorrow, Ethics, Membership, Nominating, and Professional Development.
Richard Sifuentes, Director of UTSA Small Business Development Center, gave a presentation on the core services offered by the Small Business Development Center.
Students received the opportunity to participate in roundtable discussions with city managers. Students received information on the roles of city managers and the benefits and challenges related to their work. Students asked questions and received valuable advice for seeking careers in local government.
Faculty and staff of the Department of Public Administration at UTSA facilitated the event. Gina Amatangelo, lecturer and internship coordinator, introduced the Region 8 President of 
TCMA and City Manager of Leon Valley Kelly Kuenstler, who encouraged students to become members of TCMA and presented information on scholarship opportunities. Senior Lecturer Patricia Jaramillo spoke to the participants about programs offered.
