It’s all about that Downtown Campus life! Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018 was the first day of classes for over 31,000 students at UTSA. New this fall, freshmen had the opportunity to take block course scheduling which allows them the flexibility to take their core courses at the Downtown Campus. On the first day of classes, many of the first-year students in the College of Public Policy and College of Architecture, Construction and Planning traveled on the shuttle bus from the 1604 campus with UTSA President Taylor Eighmy. Rowdy the Roadrunner greeted them in style.
The students took care of business for the day, finding their classrooms, purchasing their books, getting their parking permits, waiting in line at the food court, finding the library, talking to their advisors, and navigating their way through campus services. The College of Public Policy staff distributed water, cookies and granola bars to help students get through their first day with success. COPP students were able to place their name in a drawing for an awesome swag bag. Between classes, students visited the new student lounge to talk, relax on the bean bag chairs, play pool and just kick back.
The start of classes marks the midpoint for Roadrunner Days, a celebratory series of events welcoming new and returning Roadrunners to UTSA. The College of Public Policy helped its Freshmen prepare for a successful academic year during the Explore Your Major event. Students learned tips for success from alumni and current students and met with faculty who encouraged them to ask questions and seek help if they need it.
