April 21, 2021 — Criminology & Criminal Justice professor Michael Smith sat down with KSAT to discuss the verdict of Derek Chauvin.
Smith studies police use of force, and says police officers are not trained to do what Derek Chauvin did. Despite Chauvin's training, he decided to take a man's life. "In some small measure, justice was done today by the verdict that the jury rendered," Smith said. "I've not met a single person—either a current or former police officer—who saw that video and didn't think that there was a crime that had been committed."
