(May 1, 2019) – Congratulations to the following students who won the COPP research paper competition awards this year.
During the competition, students submitted papers related to scholarly research. The papers consisted of original research or reviews of existing research or literature. Winners were chosen by a faculty committee comprised of representatives from each of the four COPP departments, judging on the basis of substantive merit and quality of writing. A winner in each of the following categories of undergraduate, masters and doctoral received an award of $500.

John Hamilton (Criminal Justice) for "Exploring Containment: A Revision of Self-Factors"
1st Place – Masters
Bailey Saldana (Criminal Justice & Criminology) for “Cutting Class: It’s Just Too Easy”
1st Place – Doctoral
Colton Daniels (Applied Demography) for "Religious Involvement, Race, and Mental Health: How does Religion Attenuate the Effect of Depression Differentiate by Race?"
The purpose of the annual student research paper competition is to encourage students to engage in a research experience and to present opportunities for students to produce scholarly work and become inspired to further their knowledge in their fields of study.
