Criminal Justice Professor Richard Hartley and Criminal Justice Associate Professor and Associate Dean Rob Tillyer recently examined prosecutorial discretion in federal criminal cases. Their article, featured in the latest issue of Justice Quarterly , explores the decisions of federal prosecutors regarding legal and extra legal factors that were influential of declination and charge change decisions. The study utilized data from the Federal Justice Statistics Program housed within the National Archive of Criminal Justice Data for 2002-2010 and was funded by the National Institute of Justice.
