Associate Dean and Associate Professor Francine Romero is a 2019 inductee into the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame. She is among a talented and exceptional group of women who have made significant contributions in the areas of business, civic leadership, higher education, public service, law and more. Dr. Romero will be honored for her involvement, service, advocacy and policy-making at the university level. She will officially receive her award at the 2019 Induction Gala in March.
The San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame was established in 1984 to honor outstanding women who have contributed substantially to San Antonio and/or Bexar County and to recognize those who have demonstrated their support of other women. Dr. Romero is an Associate Professor in the Department of Public Administration & Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies, Faculty, and Community Engagement. Her research interests include institutional determinants of public policy; local land use policies (open space protection, zoning, annexation); federal and state civil rights policies of the twentieth century (courts and legislatures); and policies of the Progressive Era (voting reforms and immigration restrictions). Romero has served the San Antonio community as a professor, researcher, program director for first generation college students, moderator and advocate for women. Romero is Chair of the Zoning Commission for the City of San Antonio, and she spearheads multiple efforts to engage the public on critical issues and increase voter turnout among our youth.
