Jesus Treviño graduated with summa cum laude honors, earning his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in 2014 and his master’s degree in Criminal Justice & Criminology in 2016. He was the first UTSA student to earn the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s Kenneth H. Ashworth Fellowship, an award for outstanding individuals in a master’s or doctoral program who exemplify exceptional promise in the field of public service. Treviño served in the Marine Corps with two overseas tours, one in Afghanistan and one in Iraq. For eight years, Treviño worked as an mental health officer with the San Antonio Police Department’s Mental Health Unit. He specialized in crisis intervention and trained police officers to effectively community with the mentally ill to minimize escalations and uses of force. He believes his advanced degree in Criminal Justice & Criminology will help him apply scientific knowledge and evidence-based policy practices to law enforcement to prevent, reduce and manage crime. Currently, Treviño is the police academy instructor for the City of San Antonio and consultant and policy analyst for SolutionPoint + LLC. He provides organizations with innovative solutions to many challenging community issues and specializes in mental heath, workplace violence, homelessness and safety.
