In the wake of tragedy, such as the recent shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, the issues of crime and violence become especially salient in the public consciousness.
Among the scientists working to prevent violence and improve criminal justice responses to crime are criminologists. No doubt, criminological scholarship has the potential to influence policies that can enhance public safety, promote social justice and even reduce the billions of dollars spent each year on various criminal justice expenditures.
