AKD – Alpha Xi is the local chapter of the United Chapters of Alpha Kappa Delta International Sociology Honor Society. AKD seeks to acknowledge and promote excellence in scholarship in the study of sociology, the research of social problems, and other social and intellectual activities which lead to improvement in society.

Becoming a member of AKD would be a reflection of your strong academic abilities, dedication to scholastic achievement, and strong work ethic.  Membership also reflects a high level of time management and achievement on resumes, CVs, or graduate school applications. After joining AKD, you will have many opportunities to give back to the community, participate in stress-relieving off campus “getaways,” and expand your social and professional network with through activities with sociology students and faculty.

Our primary objectives for the current school year are as follows:

  • Increase the recognition of AKD at UTSA through active recruitment and AKD sponsored activities.
  • Establish a base yearly schedule, providing guidelines for AKD meetings and events which can be built on by future cohorts.
  • Give back to the San Antonio community by aligning with non-profit organizations to make a difference through community service.
  • Promote active AKD fundraising to support members’ involvement in upcoming scholarly conferences and events.
