Carlos and Malu Alvarez Graduate Research Education Excellence Funding Opportunity

The UTSA College of Public Policy (COPP) is pleased to announce the call for applications for graduate student awards made possible by the Carlos and Malu Alvarez Graduate Research Education Excellence Funds.

This funding may be used for:

  • travel to/from and research conference registration (regional, national or international conferences – preference for those invited to present); OR
  • stipends for financial assistance to participate in research-based internships or service learning programs OUTSIDE the greater San Antonio area.

All applicants must currently meet the following criteria:

  • Master’s or doctoral student in COPP program
  • Full-time student at UTSA
  • Academic good standing
  • Graduating no earlier than Spring 2015

Students applying for these funds must submit the following:

  • Application form (file:///C:/Users/AXC931/Documents/Michelle/flyers/Alvarez%20Funds%20Application%202014%202015.html)
  • A 1-page statement describing how these funds will enrich your Graduate experience. Be sure to include your accomplishments and potential in regards to how your funding would support the COPP mission, especially in regard to research, leadership, and community service.
  • A letter of support for your request from a COPP faculty member. (This letters may be part of your application packet or submitted by the recommender directly to COPP Dean’s office.)
  • A detailed budget for the amount you are requesting and estimated expenditure dates – cannot exceed $1,000. Amounts awarded will depend on number of applicants, but only in exceptional cases will the full $1,000 be awarded.

APPLICATIONS SHOULD BE SUBMITTED TO THE COPP DEAN’S OFFICE BY 5:00 PM ON DECEMBER 16, 2014. Applications can be submitted electronically to or a hard copy delivered to the COPP Dean’s Office, DT-Campus, DB 4.110.

Students selected for these awards will be notified by Friday, January 9, 2015. Funding will be released to student in Spring 2015 or Summer 2015 depending on when funds will be expended.
